Acting responsibly - for people, animals and nature
Protecting the nature
Since 1994, our company has been dedicated to preserve old orchards as species-rich biospheres. An old orchard is home to up to 5,000 different species of flora and fauna. To protect this habitat, we have collaborated with the Nature Conservation Association (NABU) to implement a concept that ensures farmers receive higher prices for their fruits in exchange for maintaining traditional and old orchards.
Regional origin
Approximately 80% of the apple juice processed in Germany is made from concentrate - a figure that is steadily increasing. We believe that using regional fruit is crucial for producing high-quality direct juice. It ensures pure and fully riped fruits through short transport distances and close relationships with local growers.
"We know our fruit suppliers personally!"
Preserve varieties
The Lower Rhine region has over 200 old fruit varieties, many being traditional and old apple varieties. Some of these are critically endangered, risking the loss of their genetic heritage. Long-term preservation is achievable if replanting becomes beneficial for orchard owners. To achieve this, it is necessary to market individual endangered fruit varieties. For this reason, we began pressing pure, single-variety fruit juices back in 2007.
Fair to farmers
As part of our price initiative to preserve old orchards, our partners receive a significantly higher price than the long-standing average rates for conventional fruit. In exchange, they are contractually obligated to deliver unsprayed and fully ripened fruit. Additionally, when providing pure, single-variety fruit, farmers receive an additional surcharge from us. We are pleased to see the success and impact of these joint efforts.
Quality
Our in-house quality standards for all products far exceed legal requirements. We process only high-quality fruit, carefully checking each fruit for optimal ripeness. In addition, we maintain close relationships with our suppliers, visiting them regularly. Rather than relying on statutory minimum specifications, we are guided by our own sense of taste.
Sustainability
Our commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in our values. For example, 58% of our overall electricity demand is satisfied through our own photovoltaic systems. Additionally, the leftovers from our fruit processing, such as pomace, are not wasted. Instead, we hand it over to local farmers who use the leftovers to feed their cattle. This approach ensures the optimal use of natural resources while fostering strong regional partnerships.
